The One Where Ali Becomes a Michigan Wedding Photographer

Hey Dudes!

Moving to Michigan, one of the main things I was so entirely nervous of was my photo business, and how was I going to grow my business in a new state where I knew nobody?! Photography itself has become such a saturated market, which makes it even more nerve wracking. Before I moved to Michigan I had connected with a Michigan based photographer, Kayla Tison, through Instagram. I signed on to second shoot a couple of weddings with her as well as associate shoot a wedding. I was so thrilled because this meant that I wouldn’t lose touch, and I would have a portfolio to show my future Michigan brides. It can be so hard to imagine your Michigan wedding while flipping through those desert filled weddings. It honestly worked out so perfectly and I could not be more thankful Kayla let me tag along and help her celebrate her couples as well as help tell their stories.

The wedding industry up here is booming in comparison to Tucson's. I see so many photographers saying the Midwest is such a hard place to grow a photo business but honestly I beg to differ (at least coming from Tucson, there is no comparison), Michigan takes the cake!! The Midwest seems to hold some of the sweetest & most down to earth couples ever. Second shooting with Kayla it so fun to explore a couple east side wedding venues including the new and beautiful “The Oakley”. Michigan wedding venues are so gorgeous inside and out, from the bridal rooms to the reception halls they have it all. Honestly, I am so so excited to be apart of the Michigan wedding industry and 2020 is going to be absolutely incredible. I cannot wait for you all to see what is in store.

Since moving to Michigan I have grown so much within my photography. From upgrading equipment to improving my client experience, serving each one of you has been my main goal. It is something I am continuously working on and probably always will. In a blog or vlog (I haven’t decided yet) I am going to tell you, aside from second shooting, how I was able to grow my business in a whole new place all the way across the country. So stay tuned for that.

These weddings you are about to scroll through held some of the sweetest couples, with some of the sweetest moments. From first touches, father’s first looks, to a tear filled bride & groom first look, and vows that were written by a groom before their first date because he just knew. These weddings were nothing short of incredible and I am so thankful I got to help tell their stories. Quite a few tears were shed on my behalf because I am always the girl crying behind her camera, I can’t help it. That’s what I get for being so dang empathetic. Just know if you are crying, you are not alone! So here they are, some of my favorite moments I got to capture this past summer.

Picking favorite moments is honestly so incredibly hard for me but I did not want to completely overwhelm you with photos (we know I tend to do that). Like I said before I am so excited to be a Michigan wedding photographer now, as well as an Arizona wedding photographer. I will travel anywhere & everywhere with you. This 2020 wedding season is going to be incredible, I will be traveling quite a bit between Michigan, Arizona & Tennessee so stay tuned & watch the magic unfold.

Much Love,

Ali K
